While I’ve been intentionally quiet on this channel, I felt compelled to share this reflection.

Last night, a new friend reminded me of the wisdom in The Four Agreements—words to live and work by:

1. Be Impeccable with Your Word – Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Use your words in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally – What others do is about them, not you.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions – Ask. Clarify. Communicate to avoid unnecessary drama.

4. Always Do Your Best – Your best changes day to day. Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

We connected over these, and he shared that #2—Don’t take anything personally—was his favorite. And while I don’t have a single favorite, that one stayed with me… especially as I think about what so many are experiencing in today’s job market.

When we lose a role—through layoff, restructuring, or termination—how often do we take it personally? How quickly do we move toward shame?

I recently recorded a powerful episode with a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who helps us unpack exactly that. She dives into the emotional side of job loss—what we carry and how we can let it go. Season 3 of our podcast launches on September 8, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
